2018 NDAA – Increase in TINA Threshold | PNWC’s Government Contracting Update

Earlier this week, the Senate passed its version of the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) for fiscal year 2018. The House passed its version earlier this summer. Now the differences will need to be worked out in a joint compromise committee before it is forwarded to the President.

Top 50 Government IT Vendors List Announced by IDC Government Insights – IDC Community

This week, IDC Government Insights announced the results of its 2017 IDC Government Top 50 Vendor Rankings. These rankings use a standardized methodology to publish the estimated IT revenue of the top vendors serving the U.S. federal government. IDC examines thousands of different federal IT contracts, and then isolates the spending by fiscal year. We send our estimates to the companies for their consideration and potential feedback.

2018 Contractor Minimum Wage Increased to $10.35 | Government Contracts Blog

The Department of Labor has announced the 2018 minimum wage rate for contracts covered by Executive Order 13658, Establishing a Minimum Wage for Contractors.

The 2014 order raised the hourly minimum wage paid by contractors to workers performing work on covered federal contracts to $10.10 per hour starting January 1, 2015. For covered tipped employees, the order set an hourly cash wage of at least $4.90.

Beginning January 1, 2016, and then annually, the Secretary of Labor adjusts the rate in accordance with the methodology set forth in E.O. 13658. The 2017 minimum wage rate is $10.20 (81 FR 64513).

Progress Report on Other Procurement Reform Initiatives | PNWC’s Government Contracting Update

We’ve been discussing the Section 809 Panel and everyone’s hope that it brings significant reforms to the acquisition process. Ultimately, many of the recommended reforms are going to require legislative action to implement so this isn’t something that will happen overnight. Also, we don’t know how many sacred cows that might be sacrificed bringing real reform into the process so we’ll just have to wait and see how it all develops.

Of course, the chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on IT was talking about the Modernizing Government Technology (MGT) Act and its inclusion in the Senate’s version of the National Defense Authorization bill.
