Federal Government Achieves Small Business Contracting Goal in Fiscal Year 2017
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced Tuesday that the Federal government met its small business federal contracting goal for the fifth consecutive year, awarding 23.88 percent of federal contracting dollars to small businesses. That 24 percent (rounded) works out to $105.7 billion, an increase of $6 billion over the previous year (fiscal year 2016) and the first time the total contracted amount surpassed $100 billion.
DoD still working off old NDAA tasks while Congress debates new bill
Even as Congress debates the 2019 defense authorization act, the Defense Department is working off a backlog of tasks from prior year NDAAs. Among these efforts is a new rule to help stave off counterfeit electronic parts. And on a less crucial note it adds language to the rule so companies know the purpose of defense procurement. Procurement attorney Joseph Petrillo, of Petrillo and Powell PLLC, joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin for more discussion.

Last week, the Government Contracts Group wrapped up its 34th annual Ounce of Prevention Seminar, “Diving Into Uncharted Waters,” last week. The speaker panels featured Crowell & Moring lawyers from various practice groups, government officials—including GSA Administrator Emily Murphy—and in-house counsel, and focused on a variety of timely issues including False Claims Act enforcement, ethics and compliance, bid protests, cybersecurity and privacy, and international issues affecting government contractors. 2019 NDAA – Expedited Hiring Authority for Procurement Positions

The most recent FITARA scorecard wasn’t a total wash — five agencies did manage to improve their scores, and another eight didn’t lose any ground. But 11 agencies saw their scores drop — the most ever. And nine agencies received a score of “D” or “F,” the most in two years. But that was expected; the process was designed to yield lower scores this time.
