Ken Patton: GAO modernizing process for filing, tracking protests

The Government Accountability Office’s job as a sort of governmentwide inspector general is well-known. People and companies in federal contracting also known it as a major forum for deciding bid and contract award protests. Now the GAO is about to modernize the process for filing and tracking protests. Ken Patton, GAO associate general counsel for procurement law, joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin for more information.

Equating IT Modernization to Business Innovation – Andrew White

Prime Contractors Called Upon to Release Subcontractor Past Performance Ratings

Past performance information is one indicator of an offeror’s ability to successfully perform the contract and is often considered by agencies when making contract awards. While there is a mechanism to log and retrieve past performance information for prime contractors (e.g. Past Performance Information Retrieval System (PPIRS)), there is no comparable system to track past performance for information for subcontractors. That is about to change.

The answer: these are all businesses were seated by money from the federal government, through the Small Business Innovative Research Program. Here in the region, about 250 million dollars a year goes into startups developing high technology.They get to keep their commercialization rights, and sell to the government as a prime if they develop something meaningful. This program is a fantastic opportunity for startups in the D.C. region, and to talk about it, we were joined by Robert Brooke, director of federal funding programs at the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology.
