DFARS Rule Clarifies Allowability of Costs Related to Counterfeit Electronic Parts | Government Contracts Blog
The Department of Defense has finalized its proposed rule addressing the allowability of costs of counterfeit electronic parts or suspect counterfeit electronic parts and the cost of rework or corrective action.
The final rule in DFARS Case 2016-D004 amends the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement at DFARS 231.205-71 to provide that these costs may be allowable if the parts were obtained by the contractor/subcontractor in accordance the clause at DFARS 252.246-7008, Sources of Electronic Parts.

Of the four major industry groups in Onvia’s State, Local and Education Procurement Snapshot for Q2 2016, the Business Services group saw a 1.6% rate of growth over the same quarter the previous year. This is the second largest rate of growth among the industry groups that were examined for the quarter.

New Cost Principle Addresses Allowability of Costs Related to Counterfeit Parts | PNWC’s Government Contracting Update
The Department of Defense just published a final rule in its FAR Supplement (DFARS) that affects the allowability of certain costs – costs related to counterfeit electronic parts. The new cost principle can be found in DFARS 231.205-71. The “dash 71 means there is no corresponding cost principle in the FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulations).
