Contractors looking for updates to the statutory allowable cost limits on employee compensation may be looking in the wrong place. But what was once lost can easily be found, at least for the moment, by simply navigating to a different website.
Defense contractors who work with small businesses could be getting paid sooner. Sens. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) introduced a bill requiring DoD agencies to pay small prime contractors within 15 days of receiving an invoice. Current law requires the agency to pay within 30 days. The bill would also apply to large prime contractors working with small subcontractors. The senators attached the bill as an amendment to the House version of the National Defense Authorization Act. (Sen. Mike Enzi)

The House yesterday passed its version of the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The Senate is working on its version which is expected to easily pass. Then the bills are off to a joint committee to reconcile or resolve the differences.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced Tuesday that the Federal government met its small business federal contracting goal for the fifth consecutive year, awarding 23.88 percent of federal contracting dollars to small businesses. That 24 percent (rounded) works out to $105.7 billion, an increase of $6 billion over the previous year (fiscal year 2016) and the first time the total contracted amount surpassed $100 billion.
Even as Congress debates the 2019 defense authorization act, the Defense Department is working off a backlog of tasks from prior year NDAAs. Among these efforts is a new rule to help stave off counterfeit electronic parts. And on a less crucial note it adds language to the rule so companies know the purpose of defense procurement. Procurement attorney Joseph Petrillo, of Petrillo and Powell PLLC, joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin for more discussion.
