$500M IT modernization bill passes House — FCW

The Modernizing Government Technology Act passed the House of Representatives on a voice vote on May 17. The bill establishes a $500 million central fund to support rapid IT modernization and authorizes working capital funds at 24 large agencies that can be used to pay for IT modernization. Agencies can bank any savings they enjoy for use on further IT projects.

The Federal Government has established statutory goals for ensuring that small businesses get their fair share of Government contracts. For example, 23 percent of prime contracts must go to small businesses. Three percent of prime and subcontracts must go to service-disable veteran-owned small businesses. Given the size of Government procurement, that represents a lot of money.
